All sites listed here are located in the UK and governed by UK law. For this reason we are confident that all these sites will ship you an ID card, of some sort, eventually. This is in stark contrast to many sites not listed here, who will take your money and send you nothing. Please read the advice section below and check the forum / site ratings.

DO NOT send cash in the post!
Cash can be intercepted in the postal system and should only be used as a last resort. Always pay for your card using a traceable and refundable method of payment (Credit / Debit Card, Cheque, Postal Order). Sending a non-traceable payment (e.g. Western Union or cash) is asking for trouble.

Exaggerated delivery times
You’ll find that most sites now promise ‘next / same day delivery’. Treat such promises with scepticism. You’re always better off listening to the recommendation of someone who has already ordered a card and experienced the delivery time themselves.

See a real scan / photo of the card
Make sure you see a proper photo / scan of what you are buying. Some of the photos / scans on the ID company websites may be photo enhanced or retouched and may not be accurate representations of what you will receive.

'Phony' review sites + forums
There are several novelty ID information sites a bit like this one, all not disclosing who's behind the site. Be very suspicious of advice from web review sites. You should also be very suspicious of fake ID forums. These are often used by scammers or people trying to falsely discredit competing sites.

Customer testimonials
It's easy to write something like: 'Your company is great, I recommend you to everybody!', but it means absolutely nothing. These could very easily be made up.

Length of time trading and company type.
Look for how long a company has been in business and how it is set up. A long established Limited Company might be more reliable than someone operating from their bedroom.

Do you get a response when you contact the site? Is the website updated regularly?
It’s always worth emailing the company you plan to buy from before sending any payment. Some ID companies may not respond to email. Much better for you to find this out before ordering. Keep an eye on the website for evidence that it is being maintained. Check if any tracking / order status feature is being updated.

One company, many different domain names
You will find the same card designs appearing across several apparently different websites. This does not necessarily indicate a scam but may have been done to manipulate search engines, escape a bad reputation, or simply to confuse you. What should I do if the service I've received is not up to scratch?
Firstly you should email the site involved and try and resolve the problem with them. If this doesn't work then you could try posting about your experience on a public message board or posting a complaint on ComplaintsBoard.com. If all else fails you should contact UK Trading Standards. Links to all these places are in our links section at the bottom of this page.
